In its 40-year history in New York State, NYSID has proven itself to be a trusted state designated vehicle for creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities. NYSID has proudly partnered with the state, local governments, not-for-profit organizations and New York businesses to provide tens of thousands of jobs to capable and deserving individuals across New York State. In 2015 alone, NYSID Preferred Source contracts employed a diverse group of more than 7,000 New Yorkers with disabilities working 4,270,000 hours and earning $59.7 million in wages.
From the outset of this audit process, NYSID made clear to OSC that it welcomed the Comptroller's analysis of the Preferred Source Program and NYSID’s compliance practices. For this audit to have maximum value to the state, OSC needed to examine the entire scope of NYSID's program and review the specific issues that arise when working with people with disabilities.
