Rehabilitation Support Services Named Member Agency of the Year

Category: General — NYSID @ 7:02 pm

Rehabilitation Support Services (RSS) received NYSID’s 2015 Member Agency of the Year Award, and Ralph Talarico was named Employee of the Year, during NYSID’s Annual Meeting.

Employment is the founding program of Rehabilitation Support Services’ many different initiatives, a natural fit with NYSID Preferred Source opportunities.

This relationship was forged 20 years ago, and can best be described as proactive, positive and impactful.

Preferred Source contracts provide job choices in janitorial, groundskeeping, temporary personnel, industrial laundry, and messenger service for RSS program participants recovering from mental illness.

The first RSS-NYSID work team began its inaugural courier run on July 1, 1995. Today, this workforce serves important customers, such as the New York State Office of General Services; Westchester and Adirondack Community Colleges; the New York State Department of Transportation; the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services; and the Metro North Railroad, among several other customers throughout nine New York State counties.

Ralph Talarico is a busy man, driving a van throughout Albany each day, delivering and picking up mail bins at NYSID Preferred Source customers. RSS serves several different locations through its Central Courier operation, and Ralph is considered a lead person on the fleet, where he’s worked for more than seven years.

Ralph has taken full advantage of various RSS services to develop social, life and employment skills, especially to improve his job performance, increase his accuracy and complete assignments. Central Courier customers, RSS management and co-workers all value his contributions and performance.

Ralph also was profiled in a story by Kumi Tucker on WNYT NewsChannel 13. Kumi  has emceed NYSID’s Annual Meeting for the past two years, and NYSID appreciates her continued reports on NYSID’s job creation efforts for New Yorkers with disabilities, especially during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

During its Annual Meeting, NYSID recognized individuals employed on Preferred Source contracts, not-for-profits, small businesses, New York State agencies and school districts for their work to create jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities.
