Category: General — NYSID @ 12:42 pm

NYSID presented its 2015 Preferred Source Champion Award to co-recipient NYS Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-Syracuse), Deputy Majority Leader of the NYS Senate, during its 2015 Annual Meeting.

Assemblymember Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes (D-Buffalo) is the fellow 2015 Preferred Source Champion Award co-recipient; both awards were presented on September 30 at The Saratoga Hilton in Saratoga Springs.

NYS Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-Syracuse), Deputy Majority Leader of the NYS, was named a NYSID Preferred Source Champion Award co-recipient

Dottie Pohlid, Senator DeFrancisco’s chief of staff, accepted the award on his behalf. She remarked: “The Senate Majority advocated for the passage of the bill that created the Preferred Source Program years ago. The Senator has been a strong supporter of New York’s Preferred Source Program because he knows that NYSID has created thousands of jobs through this program, and NYSID will continue to build on these accomplishments in the future.

“That is why he worked to ensure it was protected when the Procurement Services Bill was negotiated in the 2015 session. The Senator and I look forward to working with Ron Romano in the 2016 session and continuing to work with NYSID and his colleagues. It is an honor for the Senator to be named Preferred Source Champion.”

“NYSID and its vast network of member agencies honor these champion legislators for their ongoing support of job opportunities for New Yorkers with disabilities, particularly as NYSID closes out its celebration of ’40 Years of Looking Forward’ during this milestone anniversary year,” said Ron Romano, NYSID president & CEO. “These legislators provided incredible leadership in advocating on behalf of New Yorkers with disabilities and their contributions to our statewide workforce.”

During NYSID’s Annual Meeting, individuals employed on Preferred Source contracts, not-for-profits, small businesses, New York State agencies and school districts were all recognized for their work to create jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities.

A video highlighting NYSID WORKS! events also was shown at the Annual Meeting. NYSID coordinated NYSID WORKS! in mid-September to thank New York State for creating jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities. More than 20 NYSID member agencies and corporate partners volunteered at local non-profits in need of small beautification projects across New York State.
