NYSID Honors New Yorkers With Disabilities During Annual Meeting

Category: General — NYSID @ 2:38 pm

#EmploymentEmpowers was a fitting theme for NYSID’s Annual Meeting on September 21 at The Saratoga Hilton, as individuals employed on Preferred Source contracts, not-for-profits, small businesses, New York State agencies and municipal agencies were all recognized for their work to create jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Jerry Williams, Schoharie County Chapter NYSARC, Inc./Toe Path Industries, accepts his 2016 William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award

Jerry Williams, who works in packaging/labeling with Schoharie County Chapter NYSARC, Inc./Toe Path Industries in Schoharie, and Brian Mann, a document destruction technician with Lifetime Assistance/LAICO Industries in Rochester, were honored as 2016 William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award co-recipients.

The William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award is NYSID’s most prestigious people-centered award. In its 13th year, NYSID’s Joslin Awards Program has recognized more than 650 Outstanding Performers, and awarded 15 of those individuals with the final William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award.

“I really like the hours and the people I work with,” Jerry Williams said. “And the money I earn helps me support my family, pay our bills and buy the things we need.”

“I like being nominated for this award because it means that people notice my hard work and achievements, and that I do my job right,” Brian Mann said. “If I didn’t have a job, I would be bored and sad. I would miss being busy at work, my paycheck, co-workers and staff.”

In 2016, NYSID has recognized 59 statewide Joslin Outstanding Performers statewide. This includes New Yorkers with disabilities in the following regions: 21 Capital Region/Hudson Valley residents; 15 New York City and Long Island residents; 12 Western New Yorkers; and  11 Central New Yorkers.

“NYSID secures meaningful employment for all New Yorkers with disabilities who look to Preferred Source opportunities to choose an employment direction,” said Ron Romano, NYSID president & CEO. “In doing so, we salute the 2016 Joslin Outstanding Performers as ambassadors of the wide-ranging abilities of New York State’s workforce.”

NYSID also presented the following awards during its Annual Meeting:

Special Recognition Award (co-recipients): Joseph Scorza and Richard Whaley, Center for Disability Services

Joseph and Richard joined NYSID at a NYS Procurement Council meeting on May 25 and testified about the importance of their mail processing jobs.
