Disability Meets Diversity During NDEAM #InclusionWorks

Category: General — NYSID @ 10:54 am

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), reflecting the important role disability plays in workforce diversity. This year’s NDEAM theme is #InclusionWorks.

NDEAM dovetails perfectly with #EmploymentEmpowers, the theme of NYSID’s Annual Meeting, when we recognized individuals employed on Preferred Source contracts, and organizations for their work to create jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a diverse workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.

“We know that there are thousands of New Yorkers with disabilities that are counting on NYSID and its members to create job opportunities for this underserved, yet most deserving workforce,” said Ron Romano, NYSID president & CEO. “NYSID celebrates the efforts of our members to help create these opportunities, and we salute New Yorkers with disabilities for demonstrating employment excellence and the rich diversity of New York State’s workforce.”

“No matter what, no matter how, people with disabilities have the right to be employed, yet they remain woefully under-employed and under-paid,” said Francoise Dunefsky, NYSID board chair. “NYSID has always been a leader in providing real jobs with real pay for individuals who otherwise would not be able to lead the lives they are leading because of these jobs.”

We encourage our member agencies and private-sector business partners to let us know about recognition events for your Joslin Outstanding Performers, so that NYSID staff may attend.

Please share with us any photos of your recognition events or other news from your organization about the diverse individuals with disabilities who contribute to New York State’s workforce via NYSID’s social media:
