Xerox is part of a successful collaboration that has created jobs for 100 New Yorkers with disabilities and millions of digital images for the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, or WCB.

During the past year, Xerox has provided document scanning technology and data processing services at its Albany and Endicott facilities to manage worker compensation claims. This has reduced application errors and slow downs, which can delay payments to recipients.

Claims processing turnaround time has dropped from a seven- to 10-day time period to three days or fewer –– all while achieving 99.5 percent accuracy in all documents.

Eighty million digital images have been created to date, streamlining operations for the WCB, and providing 100 new jobs, building skill sets for individuals with disabilities, reducing unemployment and energizing a local economy.

Xerox hires workers with disabilities to support the workers’ compensation processing operations. Individuals from several of NYSID’s community rehabilitation member agencies in Albany and ACHIEVE, a NYSID community rehabilitation member agency in Binghamton, are an essential part of the integrated workforce.

The Employee of the Year is Bette Legory. After years of low-paying jobs and unemployment marked by substance abuse, Bette entered into a training program to begin her path to independence and sobriety.

When the Xerox processing center began hiring workers with disabilities from ACHIEVE for the NYSID contract, Bette was placed into her first new job in many years –– one requiring a brand new skills set.

She is highly capable as a document prepper and performs at double the required capacity of images per hour, making her one of the best workers throughout the operation due to both her speed and accuracy.

“This is the first time I’ve ever had a job that actually means something,” Bette Legory said. “This [award] is probably the most positive thing that has ever happened to me.”

“We’re very happy with the partnership of ACHIEVE, NYSID and Xerox, and the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board,” said Christine Tischi, manager, New York State WCB Imaging Quality Assurance Unit.

“Bette Legory is an example of one of the NYSID employees who exemplifies all that we’re so proud of with our Endicott program, and I’m very pleased and proud to be able to congratulate her as the NYSID Employee of the Year award recipient on behalf of Xerox,” said David Wright, Xerox State & Local Solutions, Inc. senior vice president and managing director.

During NYSID’s Annual Meeting, individuals employed on Preferred Source contracts, not-for-profits, small businesses, New York State agencies and municipal agencies were all recognized for their work to create jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities.

Kumi Tucker, WNYT NewsChannel 13 anchor, once again served as Annual Meeting emcee. This year’s theme was #EmploymentEmpowers.
