New York City, Long Island Jobs Impact Individuals With Disabilities

Category: General — NYSID @ 12:44 pm

In 2016, NYSID Preferred Source contracts accounted for 3,530 jobs created in New York City and Long Island and 6,970 jobs, 4,231,476 employment hours and $60.6 million in wages across New York State. NYSID celebrates National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in March, honoring these individuals with disabilities who push past significant challenges to reach their potential in workplaces, schools and communities.

"I like cleaning for the FDNY because it makes me feel proud of myself," says Beverly Sparks, an AHRC New York City custodian serving FDNY on a NYSID Preferred Source contract

Take Beverly Sparks, one of 100 AHRC New York City custodians serving the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY).

She and her fellow AHRC workers are on the job at emergency medical and fire battalions in four different boroughs, where FDNY personnel have commended their quality of service and work ethic. “I like cleaning for the FDNY because it makes me feel proud of myself,” Beverly says.

FDNY was honored as NYSID’s 2016 Customer of the Year during our Annual Meeting.
