Ron Romano, NYSID president & CEO, and Rev. Peter Young, from The Altamont Program, Inc., also were interviewed.

Smith is a porter with The Altamont Program, Inc. in Schenectady, an affiliated program of Peter Young Housing, Industries, and Treatment, who works at the Corning Tower in Albany.

He was chosen from among 59 Joslin Award nominees statewide to receive the prestigious William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award. In its 10th year, NYSID’s Joslin Awards Program has recognized 475 Outstanding Performers, and awarded 11 of those individuals with the final William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award.

NYSID’s annual Joslin Awards Program celebrates excellence in Preferred Source employment by New Yorkers with disabilities. All Outstanding Performers receive a certificate of achievement and cash award, and are featured in an annual yearbook.

The Altamont Program, Inc. operates educational and vocational programs, offers job placement, provides housing services and manages properties affiliated with Rev. Peter Young’s programs, all while helping individuals experience the dignity of earning a paycheck. Through a number of for-profit ventures, The Altamont Program oversees nearly 40 contracts with NYSID, providing janitorial, culinary and digital imaging services across New York.

For more than 50 years, Peter Young Housing, Industries, and Treatment (PYHIT) has offered hope and opportunity to the impoverished, the addicted, and the socially disenfranchised through addiction treatment, housing, vocational training, and job placement.

NYSID appreciates the great coverage in advance of our Annual Meeting this Monday, September 16 at The Saratoga Hilton in Saratoga Springs.
