Raise Autism Awareness in April

Category: General — NYSID @ 3:08 pm

April is National Autism Awareness Month, when we honor the contributions of individuals with autism to the social and economic well-being of our communities, our state and our nation.

The Autism Society has been celebrating National Autism Awareness Month since the 1970s in order to highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism. The United States recognizes April as a special opportunity to educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community.

Today, autism prevalence is now one in every 68 children in America, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls). The prevalence of autism has more than doubled since 2002, when CDC’s estimate was 1 in 150.

This month, we aim to increase awareness of NYSID, our member agencies and corporate partners, and the ways in which we collectively turn business opportunities into jobs for New Yorkers in the autism community, particularly via NYSID contracts.

Thank you for your assistance and your continued support during National Autism Awareness Month and throughout the year.
