Liberty Fresh Market is a “Market With a Mission”

Category: General — NYSID @ 3:39 pm

Liberty Fresh Market will soon be opening along Route 30 in Amsterdam. WNYT NewsChannel 13 did a wonderful story on the social enterprise, which will be run by Liberty ARC and offer products from local vendors and farms, fresh local produce, and budget-friendly bulk foods.

Most of the staff will come from the people Liberty serves. They call this a “market with a mission.” Profits will go back to people with disabilities at Liberty. The store is set to open at the end of July or beginning of August, but people can already sign up for a Fresh Perks card with discounts.

In fact, Liberty Fresh Market is just the latest horticultural endeavor to sprout up among NYSID member agencies. Outdoor gardens and indoor greenhouses are in abundance, producing fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, all shared by agencies and their communities.

NYSID’s blog and Facebook page explored some of the “growth” happening across NYSID’s membership this spring. Check them out for more stories of successful horticultural programs at NYSID member agencies!
