Disability Employment Champions of Change have done extraordinary work to make workplaces more accessible and to create employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Robinson has made it his life’s work to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive equal employment benefits and opportunities. Over the past five years, Our Ability has worked with individuals, non-profits, and large corporations to facilitate better employment outcomes for those with disabilities. Now, Robinson is helping build a unique web portal that will help individuals with disabilities find employment.

“This is an unbelievable honor to have the work of Our Ability recognized by the White House,” Robinson said. “Our mission is to prove to business and corporate leaders throughout the country that people with disabilities can play a major role in the workforce. This award brings recognition to those we are helping now and the thousands we hope to assist in the future.”

These Champions have distinguished themselves by making workplaces more accessible to strengthen the American economy. The October 15 event showcased these incredible leaders and their significant contributions to their communities and featured U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council Cecelia Muñoz, Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Jenny Yang, and other Senior Administration Officials.

NYSID has served as major sponsor and video sponsor for Robinson’s “Journey Along the Erie Canal,” an ambitious, two-week, adaptive bicycle journey across upstate New York along 365 miles of the historic Erie Canal. The summertime event increases awareness of the ability inside all people with disabilities, and raises funds to support adaptive sports, accessibility, education, and employment for all New Yorkers with disabilities. Journey Along the Erie Canal received extensive coverage across NYSID’s social media and broadcast media.

The Champions of Change program was created as an opportunity for the White House to feature individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.
