Annual Meeting 2019 Recognizes Life-Changing Jobs by Outstanding Performers and More
“A Job Can Change Everything” resonated throughout NYSID’s Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation on October 22 at the Albany Capital Center.
The audience of NYSID Member Agencies, Corporate Partners, government purchasers, oversight agencies, and countless supporters, families and friends experienced this firsthand through the Outstanding Performers and Employees of the Year chosen for excellence at their respective workplaces. Speaking about their award winners, each organization offered these tributes:
- “An individual like Mike is an invaluable piece to the puzzle.” (Greg Sorrentino, President & CEO, Center for Disability Services)
- “People like Michael are the backbone of our business.” (Chris Alex, President, American Maintenance)
- “We should all have employees like Katie.” (Jill Warner, CEO, Jawonio, Inc.)
- “We’re so proud of Candy for changing her life, which is a hard thing to do." (Nancy Rider, CEO, Northeast Career Planning)
NYSID also honored Senator Neil Breslin and Assemblymember Patricia Fahy as “Preferred Source Champions” for their advocacy on behalf of inclusive Capital Region communities. Most recently, they provided assistance to NYSID and Center for Disability Services in educating stakeholders on the need for a new and modernized Mail Fulfillment Services definition.
The “Customer of the Year” award was presented to the New York State Department of Health for creating more than 300 jobs last year for individuals with disabilities, many of whom clean at the prestigious Wadsworth Center public health lab in Albany.
In the words of NYSID President and CEO Maureen O’Brien, “The primary driver of economic security is employment. This is why programs like Preferred Source contracting through NYSID can sustainably improve the quality of life for an individual with a disability.”
NYSID’s staff and Board of Directors extend their gratitude for a successful 2019 on behalf of more than 5,500 individuals who work on NYSID Preferred Source contracts.
