Looking for more ways to support New Yorkers with disabilities?

At NYSID we have the pleasure of working and engaging with a number of organizations whose missions are aligned with ours. These organizations offer incredible products and services such as limited runs of art, note cards, baked good and so much more. 

While these are not Preferred Source, we encourage you to explore the work that these groups are doing and support them where you can.

The Copper Café is open to the public for tasty beverages, breakfast, and lunch. The eatery employs people supported by Arc Herkimer to grow skills in cooking, customer service, and hospitality.

Chef's Express started in 2008 as a subset of the Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter's Venture Day Habilitation Program, for people with developmental disabilities to learn baking and culinary skills. With much Support, what started as experience for some, has turned into full fledge bakery open to the public in downtown Utica. 

The Thomas. S. Gulotta Wheatley Farms & Arts Center welcomes people of all abilities to connect with nature and with the people around them. Through a unique partnership with AHRC Nassau, men and women enrolled in AHRC Nassau’s day habilitation services are engaged in the daily operation of Wheatley Farms & Arts. 

Luv Michael trains, educates, and employs autistic adults. We provide a great place to work and a supportive community. In addition, we also hand make all natural gluten free amazing granola at our bakery in NYC. 

Invictus Bakery provides training classes for career-oriented, culinary and pastry bakers as well as ambitious newcomers on the spectrum.  Based in Brooklyn, they offer classes and unique a Baker-forhire program. Book a shift with our Certified Bakers for any of our products: cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, brownies & grain-free dog treats.  Our Certified Bakers bake, decorate, pack up & deliver the treats!  

The mission of SNACK*, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, is to enrich the lives of children, teens, and young adults by providing diverse classes and activities. The offer several products for sale including Cup of Joe coffee and coffee delivery subscriptions.  

Cafe Joyeux is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that employes and trains individuals with mental and cognitive disabilities. Their NYC based cafe prepares fresh food daily and is open for catering. They also sell fair-trade, roasted-in-NYC coffee online and in-store. 

The Arc Ontario operates several social enterprises that serve the community while generating revenue to help sustain their core mission. Make sure to stop by the Bad Dog Boutique before grabing coffee from North Star Cafe. 

Patent Press Greeting Cards is a boutique line of greeting cards founded by Bob Hickey from Rochester, NY, featuring artwork that originally accompanied actual patent applications filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The late Bob Hickey was a 13-year employee of Lifetime Assistance and former Work Center Business Manager for Lifetime Assistance LAICO Industries division. He donated his successful nationally recognized greeting card business he founded, Patent Press Greetings Cards, to Lifetime Assistance Inc, to provide employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. He saw the donation as a marriage of two of his passions.
